Pressing problems facing humankind today

Nowadays, we, humankind, live in a convenient and comfortable world. Everywhere is filled with buildings and automobiles. The transportation is convenient and the information is easily accessible. That’s because of the science and technology’s advancement. However, as our living surroundings become more and more advanced, the natural environment is being seriously damaged. The environment problem has become a pressing problem to humanity today.
Human being is a selfish creature; they recklessly destroy forests, rivers, oceans and wetlands just for their own benefits. In addition, they do not ever respect the environment, only concerning what they want now. As a human, I feel ashamed. Nevertheless, forests, rivers, oceans and wetlands are closely related to us. Can you imagine that one day Mother Nature treats us with the way we treated her? Therefore, if we do not face the problem, we will run into terrible backwashes in the future or just NOW.
Some serious problems have occurred such as ozone holes, El Nino effects, global warming, and extreme weathers. These phenomenons have great impacts on our world. According to a report, global warming will cause sea levels to rise. Horribly, sea levels on the earth will rise by more than 100 meters if Antarctic glaciers completely melt. Then, a lot of big cities, such as Taipei and New York, would be flooded and under water. The unusual weather also causes many people’s death. What a terrible sight it is!
What is more, the changing of environment also inflicts negative effects on animals especially the endangered species. A lot of nature reserves have been depredated in the process of the development. It cause a great deal of ecological problems, too.
Hence, we shouldn’t exploit the nature at random; because the earth does not belong to ourselves. It belongs to everyone who lives on the earth and even our descendents. Most importantly, we should cherish and be friendly to our Nature. Remember, before you try to achieve your ambitions, you should think twice whether it will hurt the environment or not. Thus, the whole creatures on earth will become more and more harmonious.

How to improve english in university

It is said that Taiwan’s students’ English ability obviously go back ward when they attend to university. Why does this situation happen? According to conventions, the more educational background you have, the more capability you have. I think that’s because of Taiwan’s system of education. Students have to prepare for a lot of English tests in their high school time; however, when they are in college, they do not have the pressure . Therefore, they become slack. There is no denying that English is a global language. A person’s success or failure often depends on his/her English ability. Hence, how to improve English in university is very important!
First, reading English magazines and newspapers every day can help us enhance our English ability. By doing this, you can learn more new words and phrases. Using these new vocabularies in your composition will enable you to remember them firmly. You can not only memorize new words but also use them whenever necessary. Besides, reading English articles every day will find that your reading speed become more quickly. In Taiwan, students are demanded in two aspects, reading and writing. So, the first is much easier to accomplish.
The second way is listening to radio. There are some excellent broadcasters like CNN and BBC. In these two radios, you will learn the latest and the most correct words in English. In addition, watching English movies or TVs also can improve your listening comprehension. Then, you may learn English while enjoy the episodes. That’s like that kill two birds with one stone, isn’t it? One would be only too glad to do it!
Last but not least, you can practice speaking with foreigners. Chinese students are always too shy to speak English with foreigners. Therefore, we should promote our speaking ability harder and harder. In fact, having good speaking ability is very useful, because communication is important. The second and the third ways are our weaknesses. Hence, we have to enhance these two respects when we are undergraduate students.
Rome was not built in a day and so is English. You have to study hard and keep syudying it. Moreover, you should equally emphasize on reading, writing, listening and speaking. Having good English ability has become a tendency or even an indispensable ability now. If you have better ability, you will have more opportunities in the future. Do you want to lose just at the starting point? So, what are you hesitating about? Let’s go to study English right now!

I sent a letter to one of my good friends the day before yesterday. Strangly, she called me yesterday and said that while she open the letter, there was nothing but two rubber bands in it. At beginning, I wondered that whether she made fun of me or not. However, it was true. We both did not know where the letter was gone. It was so suspensed, wasn't it? I hope that she can call me and say that the letter has been found today! Ha ha ... ...
Nevertheless, the letter is still not be found. So, I have to write another one for her.

Christmas Party

I went to a christmas party at a pub called Plan B last night. Every one was request to have to put on red and green clothes. There were a lot of people crowded in a small room. Though it was crowded ,it was cheerful and every one's mood was so high !Besides, we play some interesting games. In that pub, you can drink limitless,but some people drunk. Those who drunk were interesting and scared. Some became lunatic,and some even hit others. One of my roommate was drunken ,too. She walked tipsy and argue that she was clear-headed.What's worse,she suddenly run very fast or abruptly stop in our way to our dorm. It was terrible ,but funny.While we arrive our dormitory, everybody was very very tired .However, it was unforgettable in our mind.

Face-Recognition Technology

Proponents of face-recognition say that if camera had been linked to a computer database with Atta's picture, one of the terrorists, security personnel could identify him and remove him from the plan. They say that it is possible to set up a system to find suspicious people out of a crowd by digitally photographing their face. The possibility of preventing a terrorist attack by spotting the bad guys is tempting. Face-recognition sweeps have been used at football stadiums,in crowded street, and airports in the hope of doing just that. However, the world's best face-recognition device is the human brain. For instance, parents can tell the difference between identical twins, even though they are exactly the same. But, unlike a fingerprint or an iris, the face does not show easy-to separate patterns. Thus, computers may make mistakes in identifying people. Buying the costly equipment seems wasteful if it makes a lot of mistakes. People who is mistakenly identified as a criminal could sue a small or foot ball stadiumfor using an inadequate system and the amount awarded in such a lawsuit could easily be higher than the cost of the system itself.

my school

I am a freshman at National Taipei University now. I love this school very much. In fact, when I saw this school the first time, I was scared! What a mini university it is! By the way, it has another much bigger area at Shanshia(三峽). Though it is small, it is very convenient! Can you imagine if your school was very big, you have to walk a lot to your classroom, haven’t you? Besides, there are a lot of snack bars and stands near my dorm. Those foods are very delicious!
To me, the most harvest is making many friends, who come from everywhere even overseas , such as Malaysia、Burma、China, and so on. It is very interesting and we get along in harmony. In addition, I learn a lot from them. Learning from others can make us grow up and become more mature.
My department is Real Estate Built Environment. But I haven’t known what I want to do in the future. Therefore, I hope I can find my target at the third year of university.
To sum up, I hope I will have a happy time at National Taipei University!
